Sketchbooks: A Way to Find Your Artistic Courage

Introducing: The Courage Sketchbook. These have been long in coming, and hold a special place in my heart..

Measuring 8×10, these hardcover sketchbooks feature my original painting “Courage” on the front cover and 60 sheets of 70lb blank sketch paper. Available now here.

“Courage is about the most useful thing in an artist’s outfit.” – Edith Wharton

One thing I have loved seeing in this time of social distancing is the creative reawakening that seems to be sweeping the country. With nothing better to do, people are turning to art as a form of catharsis, which is a beautiful thing.

All it takes to be an artist is to simply sit down and do it. The coronavirus has given us the gift of time – time to recapture what so often evades humanity in the busyness of everyday life. The truth is that humans were made to create – because we were made in the image of the ultimate Creator. To make is in our nature. To make is to worship.

Take a moment to open that empty sketchbook and draw. Dust off your watercolors that haven’t been used in years. Join in your kids’ coloring session. In art there is healing. ?

“I would rather be what God chose to make me than the most glorious creature that I could think of; for to have been thought about, born in God’s thought, and then made by God, is the dearest, grandest and most precious thing in all thinking.”
