The King of Elfland’s Daughter was published in 1924, and is one of the novels that helped establish fantasy as a genre. Edward John Moreton Drax Plunkett, 18th Baron of Dunsany  (24 July 1878 – 25 October 1957) – commonly known as Lord Dunsany – was an Anglo-Irish writer known for setting the groundwork for the fantasy genre. Though widely neglected today, his writings inspired many authors, including HP Lovecraft, JRR Tolkien, and CS Lewis. His most famous works are The Book of Wonder and The King of Elfland’s Daughter.

“And little did he know of the things that ink may do…”
The townspeople of the humble village of Erl, nestled on the edge of Elfland, have grown weary of the mundane. To recapture the magic of old, they send the ruler’s son Alveric to Elfland to win the elfin princess Lirazel. But can a marriage between a mortal man and an elf princess survive?
The King of Elfland’s Daughter is a sweeping tapestry of whimsy and grandeur. Alveric’s epic quest inspired some of the greatest works of contemporary fantasy, predating Tolkien’s Lord of the Rings and Lewis’s Chronicles of Narnia by thirty plus years.
This title is now available with beautiful cover art by Haleigh DeRocher, found exclusively at
