Christopher Morley (May 5, 1890 – March 28, 1957) was an American journalist, novelist, essayist, and poet. A true lover of literature, he was author of more than 100 novels, books of essays, and volumes of poetry, but is probably best known today for his first two novels, Parnassus on Wheels (1917) and The Haunted Bookshop (1919). Morley’s last message to his friends and family before his death was this: “Read, every day, something no one else is reading. Think, every day, something no one else is thinking. Do, every day, something no one else would be silly enough to do. It is bad for the mind to continually be part of unanimity.”
From the back:
“When you sell a man a book you don’t sell him just twelve ounces of paper and ink and glue—you sell him a whole new life. Love and friendship and humour and ships at sea by night—there’s all heaven and earth in a book, a real book I mean.”Roger Mifflin, lover of all things literature, travels across the countryside in a horse drawn book wagon, aptly named “Parnassus” after Mount Parnassus of Greek Mythology – Home of the Muses. However, a growing desire to write his own books prompts Mifflin to sell his traveling book wagon. Unexpectedly, the woman who buys it turns out to be more than he bargained for…Parnassus on Wheels is a roaring good adventure, complete with roadside brawls, heroic escapes, and a sweet love story. But the most charming element of the story is its celebration of the book world and all of the books within it. This was Christopher Morley’s first novel published; Roger Mifflin’s adventures continue in The Haunted Bookshop.
This exciting title is now available with beautiful cover art by Haleigh DeRocher, found exclusively at sweetsequels.com.
