If someone you didn't know took a browse through your library/bookshelves, what assumptions would they make about you?

I think the assumptions made about me would probably be something like, "Wow, this girl spends too much money on books" or "Does she even have a life? 😳" or "She reads a lot of boring books."

I mean, I have mostly classics and a lot of nonfiction 😆 I feel like this is what the average rando would think if they walked into my library without knowing I was a reader. 💁🏼‍♀️

I love having deep conversations with people. I love discussing ideas and debating. Controversial topics don't scare me; not because I like conflict, but because I enjoy understanding others' perspectives. It's one way that I learn and grow.

The internet lately has felt lethal. While there is tons of information and news and viewpoints being thrown out there, it has felt increasingly dangerous to engage in any sort of discussion. The art of civility, it seems, is dead. Because I love discussion, I find this incredibly sad.
The inability to have an open-minded conversation with someone with whom you disagree is a sure sign of immaturity, in my opinion.

Unity is impossible if we are unwilling or unable to exist in an air of varied ideas - if we cannot tolerate and respect someone whose ideas are different than our own.
The alternative is living in an echo chamber. And the air is lacking there.

What we need is definitely less arguing and more listening, more reflecting, more civil debate with the intention of better understanding (not "winning" the argument).

Happy Wednesday! I'm excited to share with you my newest edition of Pride and Prejudice, #gifted to me by @novelapproachpublishing. This is a very special edition! Pride y Prejudicio: Read a Novel, Learn a Language starts in English with a few spanish words trickled throughout, then gradually transitions to Spanglish, and finally transitions to full Spanish. Learn a language the natural way - through reading comprehension, little by little, the way a child learns!
I'm particularly excited to try my hand at this edition because Pride and Prejudice is a novel I have reread many many times, so I already know the story and the quotes very well. It is a fantastic concept, and I can definitely see myself utilising this method for my children's Spanish lessons as they get a little older.

How many editions of Pride and Prejudice do you own? How many times have you read it? Do you think you could learn Spanish with this slow and steady method??
